Steven Sowka

Steve Sowka, 75, beloved husband of Janet (Romaneck) Sowka, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 19, 2020.  Steve was born on January 22, 1945 in Johnson City, NY.  He was the son of the late Steven and Margaret Elizabeth (Jones) Sowka.  Steve grew up in Scranton, PA, and eventually found his way to Connecticut.  He found a home with East River Energy, where he worked for 25 years.

Always the life of the party, Steve and his boisterous personality never left a dull moment. His never-ending stream of stories and anecdotes put his love for life on display to everyone and anyone.  Be it family, longtime friend, or somebody he just met; Steve loved to share his life with you.  Those who knew Steve also knew the only thing to match his colorful personality was his colorful wardrobe.  Every holiday, special occasion, or just random day, he relished the opportunity to show off his collection of bright shirts and even brighter ties.  He was a natural entertainer.  His gift for entertaining wasn’t limited to conversation.  He was truly happy on stage singing with his guitar.  He loved to play his music and was especially fond of Elvis, Willie Nelson, and Rodney Crowell.  He also loved to travel, with the Smoky Mountains of North Carolina and Cape Cod being his favorite places.

In addition to his loving wife Janet, Steve is survived by his children, Steven Sowka, and his wife Theresa; Scott Sowka; and Michele Allen and her husband Brian; his four grandchildren, Steven, Matthew, Drew and Shannon; his sisters, Diane Lindeborn and Thelma Finkle; his brother, Joseph Sowka; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and his cats, Jackson and Willie.  He is predeceased by his sister, Betty Friese.

Due to COVID concerns, no services will be held at this time. A Celebration of Life will be held at a future date.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Dystonia Medical Research Foundation at dystonia-foundation.org.
