Lorraine Cretella Powell, 80, of Orange, beloved wife of William H. Powell III, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on July 17, 2018. She was born on February 26, 1938 in Bridgeport, CT to the late Louis and Sarah Cretella.
Lorraine leaves behind her children, Andrea Lender and her husband Glenn, Bonnie Genest and her husband Matthew, Julie Bienvenu and her partner Robert Camarda and William H. Powell IV; grandchildren, Ryan Genest and his wife Anne Marie, Shannon Lender, Spencer Lender, Christopher Genest and Zachary Bienvenu; siblings, Patricia Butkovsky and her husband Joseph and Louis Cretella and his wife Michele; and many nieces and nephews.
Lorraine began her working career as a dental hygienist in the Bridgeport School System and retired as an Executive Assistant from Schick. She was very active in her community by volunteering in the Stratford School System by reading with the children and at Milford Hospital greeting patients and their families at the front desk for over ten years. Because of her love for theatre, Lorraine and her husband, William, enjoyed volunteering for many years at the Shubert Theatre in New Haven. She was also a member of a book club for 40 years and a part of Orange Mother’s Circle group. Lorraine was very fond of her flower garden and loved going to the gym as well as swimming and walking along the beach. However, all her hobbies and pastimes will never overshadow her love and joy of being with her family and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, July 20, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Infant Church, 450 Racebrook Rd., Orange, CT (MEET DIRECTLY AT CHURCH). Interment will follow at Orange Center Cemetery. Friends and family are invited to call on Thursday, July 19, 2018 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the CODY-WHITE FUNERAL HOME, 107 Broad St., Milford, CT. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Smilow Cancer Hospital for their kind and compassionate care.
