John Cholakian, age 58, of Milford, peacefully passed surrounded by family at his home on April 13, 2024, after bravely battling cancer.
Born on June 29, 1965, in Norwalk, CT, to the late Edward and Virginia Cholakian, John’s life was marked by dedication, passion, and kindness.
John’s journey led him through various pursuits, reflecting his well-rounded nature. He obtained his bachelor’s degree in psychology and master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Fairfield University. He embarked on a career as a Family Therapist before ultimately transitioning to law enforcement. John served with distinction as a Detective at the Bridgeport Police Department. A martial artist enthusiast, John attained 5th Degree Master’s belts in Tae Kwon Do and Judo, showcasing his commitment to discipline and mastery.
Beyond his professional endeavors, John was an aficionado of cinema, sharing his love for films as an active member of his movie club. He was a self-taught and talented piano player. He was described as a witty, intelligent, modest, and kind man with a big heart that illuminated the lives of those around him. His deep bond with his family was evident, underscoring the importance of love and connection in his life.
He leaves behind his siblings Edward Cholakian (Isabelle), Aleta Fern (Robert), Jeffery Cholakian (Sheyun), and Jessica Cholakian, as well as adoring nieces and nephews, Sara Sanchez (Edil), Rebecca Napoletano (Michael), Amanda Fern (Kevin), Robert Fern, Emily Cholakian, Neo Cholakian, Geo Cholakian, and Nan, and grand nephews Holden Napoletano, Kyrian Sanchez, and Kevin Dumas III. As well as many additional beloved family and friends. He is predeceased by his parents and his brother, Michael Cholakian.
A visitation to honor John’s memory will be held on Thursday, April 18th, from 3 to 7 p.m. at Cody White Funeral Home. Additional visitation will be on Friday, April 19, 2024, from 10 to 11, with interment to follow at Milford Cemetery on 35 Cherry Street.
