Joanne B. McKeever

On Tuesday, May 26, 2020, Joanne Barnes McKeever passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her daughters and grandchildren. Joanne was born on August 9, 1928 in the small Berkshire town of Woronoco, MA, to Irving and Virginia Barnes.  

Joanne and her family soon moved to Westfield, MA, where she lived until she left for college. She graduated from Pembroke College at Brown University in 1949. Joanne then moved to Hartford for a few years before she enrolled in Boston College Law School where she met her future husband. 

Joanne travelled extensively in Europe after college. This trip was full of adventure and was one of the defining periods of her life. While at the Vatican, she had a private audience with Pope Pius IIV.

Joanne was well read with an extensive collection of books. She was an avid music lover and a lifelong fan of opera and classical music. Joanne was also an expert crossword puzzler, possessed a dry wit that could leave a whole room laughing, had a song for every occasion, and could indefinitely hold a conversation about WWII. 

She leaves behind her brother Charles Barnes, his wife Patti, and her niece Debbie Barnes Leaf.

She will be well missed by her children: Lisa Vasilopoulos (Ioannis), Alison McKeever, and Susanne McKeever (Mike Connolly). As well as her grandchildren: Maria Vasilopoulos, Tucker, Paige, and Brenna McIntyre.  Rest In Peace.

Services will be private at this time. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to National Public Radio.
