James Vincent Demo

September 11, 1938 ~ February 27, 2021 (age 82) 82 Years Old

Tribute

James Vincent Demo, 82, of Milford, beloved husband of 60 years to the late Dorothy Josephine Demo, passed away peacefully on February 27, 2021 at home with his children by his side.

James was 19 when he met Dorothy at a Sunday night dance at the Ascension Church in Flushing, Queens.  Immediately smitten, he proposed a date to  pick her up in his brand-new car - a gold 1957 Chevy that he was picking up the following week. Whether it was the car, or his beautiful blue eyes, a true love affair with Dorothy began that would span over six decades.  They married in 1961, ultimately settling in Kings Park, NY.  James began his career at General Mechatronics in Farmingdale, NY - an aerospace parts supplier to Boeing, McDonnell Douglas and Sikorsky Aircraft.   Through hard work, loyalty and perseverance, over a 40-year career he worked his way up from a machinist on the shop floor to Vice President of Operations.

But it was not work that defined James - he was a family man at heart, and the time he spent at home surrounded by his wife and children could be counted among the happiest moments of his life. His love for Dorothy and his children was paramount, and later in life, he looked forward to spending time with his 3 grandchildren. He was a selfless husband, father and granddad – nothing was too much trouble and he would go out of his way to make his family’s life easier.

In his leisure time, James loved taking care of his home – improving its beauty when landscaping as well as projects like building an office in the basement so Dorothy would have a place to study while she attended college. On lazy Sunday afternoons you would find James at home, relaxing and watching golf or his beloved Yankees on the television accompanied by his Labrador retriever Sable, and later, Bailey.  He also had a passion for golf and he loved his time in the men's club at Smithtown Landing Golf Course and playing a round with friends at his vacation home in Jupiter, Florida.

James is survived by his children, Danielle (Jeffrey) and James (Chloe); grandchildren, Jack, Juliette, and Colette; sister, Joan (Donald) and nieces Lisa (Jonathan) and Robyn (Lou). He passed away just 5 days after Dorothy, continuing their great love story for eternity.
