Howard C. Eckenrode

Howard Carl Eckenrode, of Milford, Connecticut, born March 2, 1941 in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania son of the late Howard F. Eckenrode and Mary (Kindler) Eckenrode passed away on Thursday, May 10th in Milford, Connecticut after a brief illness. He is a graduate of Central High School class of 1958, were he met his wife, the late Sally Ann (Keeton) Eckenrode. They were married on June 16, 1962.  He is the devoted and proud father of Howard Douglas (wife Kim McCarten), Mary-Kathryn Lewis, Amy Stellato and Karl (wife Donna Lawrence) and grandfather of Bryce and Kayleigh Eckenrode, James and Sean Lewis, Jonathan Stellato and Jacob and Keeton Eckenrode. 

He is a 1962 Class graduate of the University of Bridgeport with a B.S. Degree.  While at the University he was Vice President of the IDP (Iota Delta Pi) Fraternity.  He is also a graduate of the University of Connecticut where he earned his Juris Doctor degree in 1969.  In 1970 he was appointed as the Assistant United States Attorney, under President Nixon where he served as public defender for 3 years.  In 1974 he opened his private practice in Milford, Connecticut. He was a member of both the Connecticut and Federal Bar.

As a young man, he served 7 years in the Army Reserves.  Howard was very active in his community and cherished the friendships that were developed. He served as President of the Milford Chamber of Commerce, President of Milford Little League, member 3 degree Knight for the Knights of Columbus, member of Milford Jaycees, belonged to the Milford Bar Association, member of the Republican Party member of Milford Jaycees, past member of Milford Rotary, part-time public defender and helped with the Boy Scouts of America.

He leaves a sister Elaine Eckenrode, a brother Thomas & (Alice) Eckenrode and sister-in-law Joan Scianna.  He also leaves many nieces, nephews and cousins. 

He loved life in his flower and vegetable gardens, was an avid golfer, a pretty mean poker player and enjoyed the adventures and journeys that life brought.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, May 19, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at Christ the Redeemer Church, 325 Oronoque Rd, Milford, CT (MEET DIRECTLY AT CHURCH). Burial will follow at King’s Highway Cemetery, Cherry Street. Milford, CT. The family is being compassionately cared for by CODY-WHITE FUNERAL HOME, 107 Broad St., Milford, CT.
