Helen Celeste McGarry, cherished wife, mother, and grandmother, peacefully departed this life on April 9, 2024, in Orange, CT, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on August 4, 1952, in Brooklyn, NY to the late Charles and Helen Moschitta. She was the beloved wife of James McGarry.
Helen's journey was marked by a profound commitment to education. She earned her master's degree in education from Adelphi University, where she also found kinship in Delta Gamma Sorority, cherishing the bonds of sisterhood and fostering cherished memories. For nine years, Helen shared her passion for learning as a math teacher at Brookside Junior High. Even as she transitioned to the role of a devoted homemaker, Helen continued her educational pursuits, nurturing young minds through tutoring.
Beyond academia, Helen found joy in creative pursuits, indulging in handcrafts like floral arranging and jewelry making. She also attended Broadway shows alongside her beloved husband and embarked on unforgettable adventures to Atlantis, Bahamas with her adoring family.
However, above all, Helen's heart belonged to her family. She was a beacon of unwavering love and support, dedicating herself wholeheartedly to the well-being of her husband, James, their children, and grandchildren. Her home was a sanctuary of warmth, laughter, and boundless affection.
In addition to her husband, James, Helen is survived by their two daughter Kerin Jacob and her husband Andrew, and Jamie O’Brien and her husband Dan. Four beloved grandchildren: Andrew Jacob, Xavier Jacob, Charlotte Jacob, and Maggie O’Brien. As well as her sister Marianne Sarrantonio and her husband Joseph, niece Jessica Sarrantonio, and nephew Stephen Sarrantonio. She is predeceased by her cherished cat Eli, who was waiting to welcome her into heaven.

Friends and loved ones are invited to pay their respects during a visitation on April 12, 2024, from 4 to 8 pm at Cody White Funeral Home (107 Broad St, Milford CT 06460). A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary Church (70 Gulf St, Milford CT 06460) on April 13, 2024, at 10 am, followed by interment at Kings Highway Cemetery in Milford.
