Betty Jane Vodola

December 3, 1945 ~ November 6, 2023 (age 77) 77 Years Old

Tribute

Betty Jane Vodola, 77, of Milford, Connecticut, beloved wife of the late David Pond Vodola passed away on November 6, 2023. Born on December 3, 1945, in Bridgeport, Connecticut she was the daughter of the late Walter and Dorothy (Ettinger) Lawrence.

Betty grew up the second of four children on North Avenue in Stratford, CT.   After graduating from Bunnell High in 1962 she attended secretarial school and worked as an administrative assistant in many major corporations including Sikorsky Aircraft.  She practiced “short-hand” and could type 92 words a minute.  Betty was not only astute, and business minded, but classically beautiful.  She attended modeling school in Bridgeport in the mid-60’s.  She was the petite, vivacious “girl-next-door”.  A natural competitor, she won runner-up as Miss Connecticut in the Miss U.S.A competition.

She met her husband of 50 years at Danny’s Drive-in in Stratford. David was so taken by her that he dove into the back of Betty’s friend’s car as it was leaving the parking lot.  They married when she was 21.  Three years later they were blessed with a daughter whom they named Wendy.

She was huge animal lover, good cook, and had a “green-thumb”.

Their life was full & happy with many friends and family.

Betty is behind her beloved daughter Wendy Vodola Cahill and precious grandchildren Cole and Hailey Cahill. She is also survived by her siblings:  Nancy Gray, Faith Lawrence, Daniel Lawrence and favorite sister-in-law, Debbie Fountas.

The last 4 years of her life Betty was fortunate to be in the loving care of nurse’s aide Janet Amoah and her sister Yaa Prempeh.  The compassion they exhibited to Betty was the same they afforded their own mother.

A memorial service will be held in her honor Sunday, November 12 at 4pm in Milford at Woodmont United Church of Christ, 1000 New Haven Avenue.

Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or Connecticut Hospice.
